Michelangelo (Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, 1475–1564 AD), named after Michael the Archangel (Daniel 10:30; 12:1; Revelation 12:7), a contemporary of Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519 AD), was the greatest artist of his time.  A painter, sculptor, architect, engineer and poet, he is perhaps the most famous artist of Christendom.  It is unclear whether or not he was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.  However, his works are grand and influential.

His most famous works are the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (the large papal chapel in Vatican city, named after Pope Sixtus IV, which he painted, 1508-1512), the sculpture Pieta (Saint Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, 1498–1499), the sculpture David (Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence, 1501-1504) and the sculpture Moses (Church of San Pietro in Vincoli, Rome, 1513-1515).

Not Ashamed of the Gospel

Paul was a bold. He was courageous.

Paul requested that others pray for this boldness of his: " . . . pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel" (Ephesians 6:19).

Andrew JacksonAn example from the life of Peter Cartwright (1785-1872):

On one occasion a man named Peter Cartwright was about to preach when his deacons informed him that President Andrew Jackson had unexpectedly showed up.  They asked him to be careful what he said.  He stood up to preach and began, "I understand that Andrew Jackson is with us today, and I have been asked to be guarded in my remarks.  Andrew Jackson will go to hell as quickly as any other man if he does not repent!"

The congregation was shocked, wondering how the President would react.

At the close of the meeting, President Jackson shook Cartwright's hand and said:
"Sir, if I had a regiment of men like you, I could whip the world."

"I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16).

[Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) was the 7th President of the United States.  He was a victorious general from the War of 1812 (The Battle of New Orleans) and the Indian Wars (The Battle of Horseshoe Bend)].

[Peter Cartwright (1785-1872) was a Methodist Evangelist who helped start the 2nd Great Awakening.  He settled in Illinois and ran unsuccessfully against Abraham Lincoln for U.S. Congress in 1846].
