Giving is worship. Giving is gratitude. Giving is stewardship. Giving is participation. When one gives money to the church, one worships God and participates in His work. One expresses gratitude for the ability and opportunity to work, develop skills, serve and earn a return. One expresses trust that God will continue to bless when one spends money according to His priorities. One acknowledges that all money belongs to God, and one gives an account to God for how he spends it.

Biblical giving is sacrificial, cheerful, voluntary, regular and without expectation of recognition, remuneration or return. One is not required to give 10%. A ‘tithe,’ or an offering of 10%, was an Old Testament tax to support the central Temple and priesthood in Jerusalem. The New Testament has no such requirement. Believers can give less or sometimes far in excess of 10% as long as it is with an attitude of worship. A desire to give is God’s blessing. Giving is a privilege, not an achievement.
